A REET GRAND YORKSHIRE DO

A special afternoon and evening of lively Yorkshire talk, dialect, poetry and music in an exciting collaboration between YardFest Jazz and Airedale and Wharfedale writers, musicians and poets to celebrate God’s Own Country as part of Saltaire Festival at Caroline Street Social Club.

Outline timetable

3pm Talk Yorkshire

An introduction to Yorkshire Dialect, with some examples of wonderful dialect poets.  How much dialect do you know or remember from your childhood?   Members of the Yorkshire Dialect Society will be there to test your knowledge.   

4pm The Lost Chronicles of York

Burley-in-Wharfedale writer and environmental campaigner Colin Speakman gives some surprising new insights into Yorkshire’s tumultuous  history  using material from his new collection – with stories, poems and pictures.

5pm   Wharfedale Poets and Friends

Wharfedale Poets present an hour of varied poems with a strong Yorkshire flavour, with time for an open mike session to conclude the afternoon – bring your own poems  – or songs – to share with us.  

6pm Tea Interval  

7.00pm YardFest Jazz Night 

YardFest Jazz presents a Yorkshire Dixie Extravaganza interspersed with Tom Twisleton poetry and dialect. 

Pie and Peas from Edward Street Bakery from 7pm. 

Contribute through our regular pay as you feel raffle to support the performers. Bring your cash!
