Ian Beesley has spent 40 years capturing the vanishing trades of the North of England – and watching the new ones develop too. This exhibition brings together the work about work by one of Europe’s most important social documentary photographers. Poems by Ian McMillan accompany the photographs. A huge century-old Hunter Penrose camera aka The Big Big Camera is on display in the final part of the gallery. This relic of the industrial age was originally used by a company manufacturing wallpaper at Rome Mill, Oldham. When the wrecking ball beckoned. Beesley became determined to bring it back to life.
