RSC, Shakespeare Nation, DIY Shakespeare videos
We are delighted to share more news with you about how you can get involved with Shakespeare Nation, please see a message below from, Ian Wainwright, Shakespeare Nation Participation Producer.
Dear Shakespeare Nation participants,
Here are links to our RSC “Do It Yourself” Shakespeare videos for anyone wants to try performing Shakespeare at home during the lockdown. Whether whole scenes, a single speech, or even a single line these four easy to follow video’s give you all the tips, techniques and ideas you need to get started. Choose your favourite Shakespeare speech or perhaps one you think relevant to these challenging times, or why not cast yourself in one of Shakespeare’s greatest roles.
Each short film recorded at home by myself and Robin Belfield (director of RSC First Encounters) covers a different area of performance and preparation from casting to rehearsing to staging.
Once you’ve rehearsed your speech you can let your imagination run wild, turn household objects into props, create costume from those old curtains in the attic or the contents of the recycling bin. Create your own set – turn your garden shed, bathroom, spare bedroom or cupboard into a stage. Create your own epic production, or simply speak the words to camera.
If you want to share your performance then you can, by getting involved in the RSC’s #ShareYourShakespeare Simply film yourself performing a moment of Shakespeare, in your own home (or garden) and share your performance by uploading it to Instagram, Twitter or Youtube, tagging @theRSC @RSC_Education and use the hashtag #ShareYourShakespeare . Then we can share the most the most creative, surprising and inspiring contributions on our social media channels.
If filming and sharing on Instagram, Twitter or Youtube, tagging ‘@theRSC’ and using # hashtags is not something you are used to or able to do, let me know by email or phone call (contacts below) and we’ll find a way of getting your performance to us.
For even more tip’s tutorials, workshops and lessons to help you rehearse and perform your piece plus, full productions and extracts (including plenty of ideas for speeches) go to https://www.rsc.org.uk/at-home-with-shakespeare
We’d love to see you perform a moment of Shakespeare in your own home and get your take on some Shakespeare’s famous words and how they might apply to the extraordinary times we are living in.
Stay safe and well.
