The textile industry fuelled the world’s first industrial revolution.
This exhibition, held in the 4th floor roof space at Salts Mill, explores how changing textile technologies are driving a new revolution, by supplying niche markets with special yarns and fabrics or innovative materials that transform life in the 21st century.
Weaving the Future also reveals the link between our analogue and digital worlds, showing how the binary systems that once drove textile looms led to the development of computer programming.
The exhibition also includes a range items produced by Knit:Design:Research, an experimental design studio directed by Jane Scott and Elizabeth Gaston of the University of Leeds, which show how knitting can be used for a huge variety of uses.
