Gardens Galore over the opening weekend

The Festival got off to a cracking start, despite the weather, with the fabulous open gardens and pop-ups which were located right the way across the village.

There was Portuguese food, Spanish paella, a piano singalong or two, a refreshing gin yard, the ever-popular Yardfest, a marathon 15-hour Record Club pop up, and some stunning gardens (yardens?) all showcasing what you can do with a small outdoor space in Saltaire if you just put your mind, and green-fingers, to it. And many of the gardens featured amazing sculptures from artists right across the UK – all specifically matched to their environment.

The winner of the Open Gardens this year was 26 Ada Street with their stunning variety of plants and trees that encourage wildlife, biodiversity and the greening of the urban environment.

A worthy winner and an inspiration to us all.

Thanks to everyone who opened their houses and yardens – can’t wait to see what you’ll come up with for next year!
