7th to 16th September 2018
It’s that exciting time of year already! We’re inviting residents from across the village to get involved in the first weekend of Saltaire Festival 2018, which takes place on 8 and 9 September.
Open Gardens have become a highlight of the Festival, and we’re hoping even more people will take part this year. Planning for the Festival is still at an early stage but we’re looking to, once again, match specially-curated sculptures and outdoor artworks with participating gardens throughout the village. As well as individual gardens, we’re looking for the snazziest snicket, where a few neighbours get together to improve their back alleys.
We also add to the Festival attractions during the first weekend with ‘Pop Up’ venues in village houses and are inviting ideas to create successful ‘Pop Up’ spaces this September.
Previous ‘Pop Up’ houses have included cafes, arts and activity spaces, performance and music venues, and shops (with a focus on local, handmade or vintage wares). Ideas should complement the ethos of the Festival, such as promoting the special and unique heritage of Saltaire World Heritage Site, and/or tie in with this year’s theme which is The World in Saltaire: Saltaire in the World.
Participating gardens and houses will be included in the first weekend trail guide, both in print and online, which will also feature other first weekend highlights.
If you’d like to open your house, garden or yard or are interested in forming part of the ‘Pop Up’ programme for Saltaire Festival 2018, please email your name, address, contact number and details of your proposal, including images where appropriate, to: email@example.com by the end of May, including ‘Pop Up’ or ‘Garden’ in the subject line.
As with all village activities during the Festival, we need to balance enjoyable activities with the needs of residents. Activities should ideally be restricted to houses and yards but if you are thinking about a pop-up based in your street then please discuss this first with the Festival Team before developing your ideas, as we can help you with Council requirements.
To find out more about first weekend activities and opportunities, please get in touch via the same email address.
We look forward to hearing from you , and to lots of residents being part of making another successful Saltaire Festival.
