We hope you are safe and well.
As we write, we are all making history, dealing with the unique experience of Covid-19 and lockdown in our different ways. In Saltaire, we are continuing to develop the social and creative history of this vibrant place and are supporting each other by finding new routes to coming together as a community.
The Saltaire Festival team, working in partnership with Saltaire World Heritage Education Association, Saltaire Inspired, Saltaire Village Society and Saltaire History Club is seeking to collect and collate examples of creativity and community activity during lockdown. We will be calling for examples of creative and community activities through social media. In addition, we are seeking photographers and artists with a connection to the community of Saltaire to create a record of lockdown activities.
Recruiting Creative Practitioners
We are looking for two local photographers/artists/creative practitioners to work with Saltaire’s arts and history organisations to record the creation of history during lockdown and in the period of emerging from lockdown.
We are seeking a proposal from creatives which enables them to meet the specification outlined above while exercising their creative talents.
Our ambition is to have a body of work that can be showcased online at this year’s virtual Saltaire Festival (11 to 20 September 2020). We also aim for it to be added to the archive which is maintained by SWHEA and which records the history of Saltaire from its beginnings in the mid-19th century.
We will expect this to be achieved in accordance with safeguarding and social distancing guidelines.
Closing date for artists’ submissions: 22 June 2020
Selection of artists: by end of June 2020
Completed piece of work: 28 August 2020
Display on Festival website from 11 September 2020
