Saltaire Festival and the Aire Rivers Trust are delighted to announce the winners of our joint short story competition on the theme of Green Aire. Run as part of the virtual festival this year, we have been impressed by the quality of entries and the range of interpretations of the theme. First prize went to Aly Rhodes with her story entitled ‘Gone Fishing,’ a nostalgic tale of the pleasure gained through patience as a child. There were two runners up: Deborah Lyons with ‘Fishing’ and Maureen Wakelin with ‘Round the Bend’.
The competition organisers would like to thank the judges, Jane Rogers, a Trustee of the Aire Rivers Trust, and Davina Silver of the Silver family, who own and run Salts Mill.
The winning stories will be published in an anthology, which will also include the best poems from Saltaire Festival’s 2020 poetry competition. It is hoped that the anthology will be available from early December.
We will let you know via our web and Facebook when copies are available.
